◆Mother tongue

The language which a person has grown up speaking from early childhood.

I met a few people from Europe and I couldn’t tell if their mother tongue was English.

◆Language bubble

An environment where a group of people use their native language instead of the dominate language around them, insulating them from what’s happening around them.

The exchange students created a language bubble around themselves during their trip abroad so they didn’t learn anything new.

◆Silver bullet

A simple solution, which is often ineffective, to a complex issue or problem.

I thought reading a lot of books on this topic would be the silver bullet to improving my skill, but that didn’t work.

➣Phrasal Verbs 句動詞

◆To jump on

To join an activity or do something, usually without giving it much thought.

When I heard what was happening I didn’t waste any time and jumped on the opportunity.

➣Idiom イディオム

◆To be in the same boat

To be in a similar situation or to be in the same position.

I have so much work right now. I’d ask for help from my co-workers, but we’re all in the same boat.
