The New Year’s holiday in the US, and Europe, is spent quite different than how it’s celebrated in Asia. There is less focus on family and more attention spent on going out.
In the United States, it marks the end of the holiday season. Most everyone will be returning to work and school on January 2nd to start the new year.

A New Start
Since it’s a new year, everyone wants to start off on the right track. It is usual for everyone to set goals they would like to accomplish in the new year.

Relating to financial matters.

According to the customs or usual practices associated with a particular society.

Elaborate or luxurious.
入念なもしくは贅沢な。

Eager to hear something, listening attentively.

To attempt to do something for the first time.
初めて何かをしようとすること。

Auld Lang Syne
Auld Lang Syne has become “the New Year’s” song in many Western countries. Tradition dictates that it is to be played at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s.
The Scottish title translate to “old,” “long,” and “since,” but a more accurate translation would be either “time gone by,” “old time’s sake,” or “once upon a time.”
Below is an English translation of the original Scottish lyrics.
「Auld Lang Syne」 は多くの西洋の国々では新年の歌となっています。新年になる瞬間に演奏されるような伝統となっています。スコットランドのタイトルとなっていますが、意味としては “old（古い）” 、“long（長きにわたり）”、 “since（以来）”と訳せます。なお、より正確な訳としては “time gone by（過ぎ去った時）” 、“old time’s sake（過ぎ去りしなつかしき昔）”、“once upon a time（昔々）” となるでしょう。
下記にオリジナルのスコットランド歌詞を記載しておきます。
