I could say I’m more fluent playing piano than speaking Japanese.
- How is that creative process when you’re practicing? Is that a process of experimentation to come up with all of these different versions…
Yes.
- so that you feel the different options, and then you decide an option? Or it’s just happening naturally on stage?
No, no, no. I always decide my interpretation before the concert, and on the… on the stage I only do the… the improvisation.
I’ve been doing like improvising naturally since I was young, and it was quite a natural thing to me. I also improvise on jazz field, pop field sometimes.
But a few years ago I was struggling to, um, play in a… play each genres of music in the right way because with… um, unless I have to… I’m… unless I’m very, very careful.
Before the concert I didn’t… I don’t decide what is this ornament or this improvisation.
I’m always trying to find a balance, but, well in general, it’s a good thing that, um, I… I experience so many genres of music. And then I create my whole musicality.
But, you know, on the stage I feel, you know, from the atmosphere of the… of the audiences, then I did myself in… in freely.
If you’re a soloist and you have to travel by yourself, so it’s always very, you know, pressure and nervous. But you know, the piano is one of the friends. And, you know, every time we play a different instrument.
For me, piano is, I think, more than just an instrument because I… I played too many time since I was young. So, I’m… I’m basically not like a talkative person. But, um, I can be talkative when I play piano.
So this can be, yeah, helpful you discover the improvisation. Like, you know, tonight I’m going to play…

But, yeah. This can be possible than, yeah. Every time I change a lot. So, not the same all the time.
