◆Prejudice
A preconceived opinion or idea that is not based on reason or actual experience.
Some Americans are prejudice towards Spanish speakers.
理屈や実際の経験に基づいていない先入観。
アメリカ人の幾人かはスペイン語を話す人へ偏見がある。
◆Hierarchy (noun 名詞)
A system in which people are ranked according to status or authority.
The military is the very definition of hierarchy. There are soldiers with no power or say that go out to die and generals on top who have all the power.
人が地位や権力でランク付けされているシステム。
軍隊は階級制がとても鮮明だ。権力や発言もなく死ににいくような兵士もいれば、権力を牛耳ってる軍司令官もいる。
◆Discrimination (noun 名詞)
Unfair or prejudicial treatment of people and groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
Age discrimination is quite common and accepted around the world. For example, it’s normal to restrict children from buying tobacco and alcohol products.
人種、性別、年齢、性的指向のような特徴のある人々やグループに対する、不公平なもしくは偏見を抱かせるような扱い。
年齢の差別は一般的で、世界中で受け入れられている。たとえば、子供がタバコやアルコールを購入できないように制限されていたりする。
◆Stereotype (noun 名詞)
A widely held, oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
It’s a stereotype that Asians are good at math.
特定の人や物に対して、広くもたれている、単純化されすぎたイメージや考え。
アジア人が数学が得意というステレオタイプがある。
◆Ethnic Group (noun 名詞)
A group of people who have a shared culture (beliefs, values, and behaviors), language, religion, ancestry, or other characteristic.
Many different ethnic groups have immigrated in large numbers to the US over the last 200 years.
文化（信念、価値、行動）、言語、宗教、先祖、もしくは他の特性をわかちあう人々のグループ。
過去200年間にたくさんの違った民族がアメリカへ移住してきた。
◆Foothold (noun 名詞)
A secure position from which further progress may be made.
My company has been trying to gain a foothold in the Asian market for over ten years but we can’t make any progress.
さらなる進展がはかれる確実なポジション。
わが社は10年間にわたりアジアの市場での足場を得ようと試みているが、進展がはかれていない。

A slang term for having sex.
I banged a lot of women in college.
性交渉をするという意味のスラング。

◆Hypocritical
Behavior that contradicts what one claims to believe or feel.
The government is very hypocritical about the environment. They say they care, but then they don’t do anything to protect it.
信じている、そう思っていると主張することと矛盾している行動。
政府は、環境について、とても偽善的だ。関心があるといいつつ、守ろうと対処をしていない。

Going from a state of having very little money and/or status to a state of having a lot of money and/or status.
Everyone loves a rags to riches story like Cinderella.
お金がほとんどなく地位もない状況から、裕福で地位もある状況へあがること。
シンデレラのように無一文から大金持ちになった人の話がみんな好きだ。
