The Beatles ｜ Got To Get You Into My Life
In 1966 the Beatles unleashed what many believe to be their greatest achievement, Revolver. It’s an album full of fresh new sounds, especially for the time, and almost new approach to song craft. The material on the album covers every topic under the sun, from death to taxes. On side 2, close to the end of the album is the song ‘Got to Get You Into my Life.’ At first listen, it sounds like an unassuming love song, but is that really what it’s about?

1966年に最高傑作ともよくささやかれているビートルズのアルバム「Revolver」がリリースされました。その当時では新しいとされる音や斬新なアプローチで多くの曲作りがなされているアルバムです。死、税金といったあらゆるトピックがつまったアルバムだったのですが、Ｂ面のおわりのほうで、「Got to Get You Into my Life」という曲が収録されています。最初にきくと控えめなラブソングにきこえるのですが、実際の意味するところが違いますよ。一緒にさぐっていきましょう。

“So ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’ is really a song about that, it’s not to a person, it’s actually about pot. It’s saying, ‘I’m going to do this. This is not a bad idea.’ So it’s actually an ode to pot, like someone else might write an ode to chocolate or a good claret. It wouldn’t be the first time in history someone’s done it, but in my case it was the first flush of pot.”

「Got To Get You Into My Life」はそうだよ、人ではなくて実際には大麻を語った歌なんだ。僕はこれをやってみるよ、悪いアイデアじゃないよねっていっているんだ。大麻についての叙情歌ってわけさ。チョコやおいしいクラレット（赤ワイン）の叙情歌を書いている人もいるかもしれないけれども、まあそんな感じね。歴史上初めてではないだろうけど、僕の場合、大麻の最初の一歩だったんだ。
