Himari Yoshimura has made her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic as a soloist in 2025. At just 13 years old, Himari has stunned the musical world with her incredible depth and feeling, which is far beyond her age.

Hi everyone, I’m Himari. I will be performing Wieniawski’s violin concerto No. 1 with the Berlin Philharmonic for 3 days.
I’m really looking forward to playing with the Berlin Philharmonic and maestro Sebastian Weigle. It’s been one of my dreams since I was a child and I’m so happy to be able to share the music all over the world.
We listened to some videos of her and we watched videos and there were many co… colleagues sitting. And those colleagues, it’s not only me, all the others, they… they said, “Oh, she has to play with us.”
At any age, making your debut with the Berlin Philharmonic is one of the greatest moments of any musician’s career. Um, to have that happen at 13 is extraordinary.
Of course if you play as a soloist for the Berlin Philharmonic, you’re… you have… and we are convinced that she can play well, that’s why we invited her. So then, that’s what I mean. The age, in the end for us, doesn’t count so much. If Himari would be 23-years-old and play like so do… she does, we also would invite her, because she is special. Not only because of her age, but because of her personality.
So this is a historic moment for… for her. Um, I think it’s also historic… a historic moment for Japan.
And one that I’m sure everybody in Japan will be hugely proud of.
She has a voice in… in… in the way she plays. What comes over is somebody who is almost speaking with a… with the music, or singing with the music.
Himari did a fantastic job. I… I wanted them all to say something but they were all… all really very impressed.
There are many, many people, they can play the violin or can the instrument very well. I mean, you can study the technique, but on the other side, um, you need to have a certain personality. Because you need to convince the audience what you are doing.
And that’s very special. That’s how you hold an audience of however many… 2,000 people in a… in a big concert hall. That’s quite unique. Only a very few people have that… have that quality.
It’s not enough to play the music, to play the notes. You have to tell a story. I had the feeling that Himari was able to show this… this way of telling a story with playing… playing the violin.
