An AI mayor has invaded Yokosuka. Mayor Katsuaki Kamiji has been ‘replaced’ with a full AI creation. This digital rendition can even speak English, unlike the real mayor.
In this lesson we’ll take a look at the videos released by the government in Yokosuka, see what said in English and discus some of the ethical issues surround this. A sign of the times or an unholy abomination? Let us know what you think.

Hello everyone, I am Katsuaki Kamiji, mayor of Yokosuka.
I would like to share with you some exciting events we having going on in our city.
Yokosuka City, is the first municipality nationwide to pioneer the use of Chat GPT throughout its city hall.
For the past year, Yokosuka has promoted the use of generative AI by organizing contests, developing a platform to disseminate city news, hosting generative AI training camps, and collaborating with private companies on system development.
First off this weekend, May 18th and 19th at Mikasa Park, is our Yokosuka Curry Festival. One of the largest curry festivals in Japan.
It’s a wild ride from start to finish. Please come join the fun. Don’t miss out on everything there is to experience and enjoy at these local events.
